What's behind the garage?

Here's a little something else of interest from my research into some of the unexplained items mentioned on the Pistonheads.com thread. I meant to post this last night. I was looking at the 1945 aerial recon photo (taken by the British Air Force), and decided to try and shade off some of the features for identification. That's what you see below.

The red rectangle is the house, which still exists. The green circle to the north is a large tree (the stump still exists). The light green shading shows approximately where the quarry face is. The interesting bit is the sand coloured shading, which is where I have guessed the driveway / roadways would have been at the time.

You can see better now I hope the track going down into the tunnel we've found. What is interesting is what appears to be the continuation of that track in the other direction, behind the house (where the garage now is) and, unless its my mind tricking me, into a structure that abuts the quarry face. What do you think?

I think you need to watch a bit of time-team.

Get a really strong metal detector and run it over your property

As Wombo said, take lessons from the Time Team and bring in the geophysicists! Might save you a bit of your garden, too.

Havin not read the thread yet(its a bit late and i gotta work tmrw) i may be repeating someone elses concerns, but do you think there might be a good reason its been buried for so long? Dont get me wrong i want to see what it is, but sometimes the truth is pretty nasty, no?

This is great - fingers crossed you find more! I actually got back from Jersey on Wednesday night, and went to see the War Tunnels and a number of other bunkers and war structures. Have you been to the tunnels? Our guide said that the Germans had built 12 (IIRC) similar sites across the island, with the eventual goal of joining them all up. I am trying to Google but can't find anything about it. I wonder if yours could be one of these? A very nice bloke took us round two of the bunkers down by St Ouen's bay too - they are a group of volunteers who restore bunkers back to their original state. All very cool! Looking forward to the next posts.

I've seen on Time Team where they sort of x-ray the area in an aeroplane and it shows what is there. May be easier and quicker to do this than dig every where up ( also will keep he other half happy about muddy boot prints all over the carpet ) , thats of course you have access to an aeroplane and the x-ray equipment!
